Bitcoin is a fine way to fund a casino account until the price moves while you play. Deposit the equivalent of C$200 on a Friday night, have a decent session, and you can still end up cashing out less in Canadian dollar terms because BTC dropped 6% before you hit withdraw. Tether (USDT) exists to remove that problem. One USDT is meant to track one US dollar, so the number in your balance stays the number you put in, give or take what you win or lose on the reels.
That is the whole appeal, and it explains why so many offshore crypto casinos now list USDT next to BTC in the cashier. The catch is that tether lives on several blockchains at once, and the network you pick decides both what you pay in fees and whether your deposit arrives at all.
Why players move from BTC to a stablecoin
Most people who switch are not crypto traders. They want the speed and privacy of a crypto cashier without a second bet running in the background. With bitcoin, every session is two wagers: the one on the slot, and an unspoken one on the BTC/CAD rate. Win 10% at blackjack while bitcoin falls 12% and you lost money.
A stablecoin cuts that second bet out. It also makes budgeting easier. A 50 USDT deposit is 50 USDT tomorrow, so loss limits, session caps and bonus math all work in plain dollar figures instead of eight-decimal BTC amounts.
There are trade-offs. USDT is issued by a private company, Tether, and its peg depends on that company's reserves. It has wobbled briefly before, though for a few hours of play the risk is small.
TRC20, ERC20 and the other networks
This is where most expensive mistakes happen. The same USDT token is issued on several chains, and a casino cashier will usually ask you to choose one before it shows a deposit address. The common options:
- TRC20 runs on the Tron network. Transfers are usually cheap and confirm in a minute or two, which is why it became the default for casino deposits. Addresses start with a capital T.
- ERC20 runs on Ethereum. It is the most widely supported version, but gas fees rise and fall with network traffic and can turn a small deposit into a poor deal on a busy day. Addresses start with 0x.
- BEP20 (BNB Smart Chain) and versions on Solana or Polygon also exist. Fees tend to be low, but fewer casinos and exchanges support every one of them.
The trap: an ERC20 address and a BEP20 address look identical, both beginning with 0x. Your exchange will happily send USDT over BNB Smart Chain to an address the casino only watches on Ethereum. The coins leave your wallet, the casino never credits them, and recovering them depends entirely on the operator's goodwill. A deposit sent on the wrong network is usually lost.
So the rule is simple. Pick the network in the casino cashier first, copy that exact address, then pick the same network on the exchange withdrawal screen. If the two dropdowns do not show the same name, stop. Network support differs by brand and changes over time, so read the cashier itself rather than a review.
Your balance is in dollars, just not Canadian ones
A USDT balance is a US dollar balance. That matters more than people expect. Bonus caps written as "up to 300 USDT" or "US$2,500" are in American money, so they are worth more in CAD than the same figure on a loonie-based site. Wagering requirements are counted in the same units.
On the other side, when you eventually sell USDT back to Canadian dollars you take on the USD/CAD exchange rate. If the Canadian dollar strengthens between your deposit and your cash-out, you get fewer loonies back. It is a much smaller swing than bitcoin's, but it is not zero. Players who keep a stablecoin balance for weeks are, in effect, holding US dollars.
Buying USDT in Canada and what the spread costs
Getting tether is less straightforward here than in most countries. Since the Canadian Securities Administrators tightened stablecoin rules in 2023, several registered Canadian platforms have stopped offering USDT to Canadian clients. USDC is easier to find on domestic exchanges. Many players therefore buy USDC or bitcoin in Canada, move it to a wallet, and swap for USDT there, or simply deposit USDC at a casino that takes it.
Each step costs something. When you buy with CAD you pay the spread (the gap between the buy and sell price the platform quotes), often on top of a trading fee. Converting USD-pegged coins back to CAD later adds a second spread, and a swap between stablecoins can add a third. None of these show up as a line item called "fee" on the casino side, which is why a cashier that says "no deposit fees" can still leave you a few dollars short.
Compare the CAD price per USDT with the current USD/CAD rate before buying to see the real markup, and move money in fewer, larger batches.
One tax note: the CRA can treat disposing of crypto, including swapping one coin for another, as a taxable event separate from any gambling result. Keep your exchange records.
Which casinos take tether
Every brand below lists USDT among its accepted coins, based on our brand research from October 2026. None of them is open to players in Ontario or Alberta; Ontario runs its own iGaming market with no crypto payments, and Alberta launched a regulated market on 13 July 2026.

Cloudbet is the one we would point a stablecoin player to first. It takes both USDT and USDC, so a Canadian who can only buy USDC locally skips a swap. It is crypto-only, with no CAD fiat, and its current welcome deal is up to US$2,500 in cash rewards over 30 days with no wagering. KYC is usually reserved for large withdrawals or flagged accounts.
Stake also takes USDT and USDC and adds Interac in CAD. Expect a level 2 ID check before the first withdrawal. Its bonus only comes through partner codes and carries 40x on deposit plus bonus, which is heavy.
Sportsbet.io and Bitcasino.io belong to the same operator, EZ Spins Ltd., and both price their welcome offers in tether: 100% up to 300 USDT at Sportsbet.io, 100% up to 1,500 USDT at Bitcasino.io, with offers varying by region. ID may be requested at the first withdrawal or after US$10,000 in deposits. We could not find casino wagering terms for either, so read them before opting in.
BC.Game has the widest stablecoin menu here and Lightning for bitcoin, though reports on its KYC differ. At Jack.com the coin list we have names only BTC and USDT, and the 100 free spins come with no wagering on winnings.
Before you send the first deposit
- Open the casino cashier, choose USDT, and note which networks it lists.
- Check that your exchange or wallet supports the same network for withdrawal.
- Send a small test amount first, especially on ERC20 where fees make a failed attempt costly.
- Read whether crypto deposits qualify for the bonus and how the wagering is counted.
- Find the withdrawal minimum for USDT, which can differ from the BTC minimum.
- Upload ID early if the site asks for it at the first withdrawal, so payout day is not also paperwork day.
And keep the bankroll in the casino small. A stable coin removes price risk, not counterparty risk: if an offshore operator freezes an account, a dollar-pegged balance is just as stuck as a bitcoin one.
Questions players ask
Should I use TRC20 or ERC20 to deposit USDT at a casino?
Use whichever network the casino cashier lists and your exchange supports for withdrawal. TRC20 on Tron is usually cheaper and quick, which is why many players default to it. ERC20 on Ethereum is widely supported but gas fees can be high when the network is busy. The network must match on both sides, or the deposit is usually lost.
Can I buy USDT on a Canadian exchange?
It depends on the platform. Several registered Canadian exchanges stopped offering USDT to Canadian clients after the 2023 stablecoin rules, while USDC is easier to find. Many players buy USDC or bitcoin locally and swap it in a self-custody wallet, or deposit USDC directly at a casino such as Cloudbet or Stake that lists both stablecoins.
Is my casino balance in USDT the same as Canadian dollars?
No. USDT tracks the US dollar, so your balance, bonus caps and wagering are counted in US dollar terms. When you sell the USDT back to CAD you receive whatever the USD/CAD rate is that day, minus the exchange spread. The swing is far smaller than bitcoin's, but a stronger loonie means fewer Canadian dollars back.
Do USDT casinos accept players from every province?
No. All of the offshore brands listed here close Ontario, where only iGaming Ontario operators may serve players and crypto payments are not offered, and Alberta, which opened its own regulated market on 13 July 2026. Players elsewhere in Canada can usually register, but each site's terms decide eligibility, so check the restricted country list before depositing.
